Christening–A christening is the baptism of an infant. However, it is not “heaven insurance” for the child. God loves that child whether they are baptized or not. Baptism does not save the child. Everyone has to decide about Jesus–whether they will reject Him or love and follow Him–for themselves. Infant baptism is actually more about the parents, godparents and family saying they will follow Jesus so that, when the child is old enough to make their own decision, he or she will want to affirm their baptism because of the example set by the parents and family members.
Many people even choose to be re-baptized once they have made that choice to put their faith in Christ Jesus. If God is a priority to the parents and family, and if they, themselves, live a Godly life, if they attend church regularly, read their Bible daily, if they pray with their child and for their child, and talk about God to their child, then most likely, that child will grow up wanting to love and follow Jesus of their own accord.
